My take on teething & fever in the above video. What is your baby’s favorite thing to chew on? Do you have any advice for parents with teething babies?
And, do you disagree with the data–do you think your baby has/had fever from teething?

I think my 2 year old absolutely has had fevers from teething. Not necessarily from every tooth, but usually if there was a group of them coming it at once he’d run a low-grade fever. We’re ironically working on his 2 year molars right now, and he’s been running a fever of 100-ish for the last 3 days. No other symptoms to speak of, just buckets of drool and “momma my mouf hurts”. 🙂 He hasn’t been a good teether in general, we spent many nights awake with him in pain from 6-18 months while those pearly whites pushed through the gum.

My daughter is 13 1/2 months and has only four teeth (all central incisors), with nary a hint of any others popping through yet. She efficiently chews just about everything, — including steak! — so we’re not too concerned despite that this seems late…. I have to assume she has some other tiny chompers under there that will someday come out! Unfortunately, the eruption of all four of the teeth she does have all coincided with some sort of illness this winter/early spring where she was already running a fever — an ear infection in a few cases, a cold, a bout of RSV. It made for a miserable little girl, and left us with NO CLUE what her normal presentation might be if she cuts teeth when she’s not sick. She’s had a bit of diarrhea this week, and I keep saying, “Well, maybe she’s teething!” even though I know there’s no likely to be a link. We’ll see!

Oh teething! Poor lil’ babes. It makes me feel so sorry for little ones when they are pushing through a tooth. Neither of my kiddos seemed to run fevers with teething, but Will definitely had a runny nose with several upper teeth as they came in, and Emma just gets really irritable and doesn’t want to eat.
As for things that help, I do give them some acetaminophen or ibuprofen if the pain seems really bad (i.e, they can’t sleep or eat), but that is definitely a last resort. Other things that I do to help include popsicles (I like the Breyer’s natural fruit minis – sugar free and not a total mess). Both of my kids like to chew on washcloths that were dampened, wrung out, then stuck in the freezer enough to get them really cold (not completely frozen, just cold). I also will give them a washcloth in the bathtub. They love to chew on the wet cloth and the warm water and playing with their toys seems to distract them from their woes.
I also make softer, “fun” foods, like pancakes and cheesy scrambled eggs for dinner, pudding for a special treat, yogurt, etc., if they are really hurting.
Lastly, I have a nursing necklace that I used when I nursed both kiddos and it has been safety tested, double stranded/knotted, and pretty much is indestructable. Now, I would never give it to them unsupervised, but both kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this necklace when they are nursing. Here are a couple of links to jewelry like this:

Ooops, meant to say teething above. Although they also loved it when they were nursing, too. Great shower gift for expecting moms!

Yes it is natural fever during the teething period.
